Biodiversity Assessment and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for Kon Plong Wind Power Project

Share this post

ESC conducted a Biodiversity Assessment and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Kon Plong Wind Power Project in Vietnam.

About the Project

Levanta Renewables (Levanta) has obtained a survey license for wind research and a prospective project with exclusive rights within a 2,210ha site across the communes of Dak Long and Mang Canh, Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province, Vietnam.

The company contracted ESC to conduct a biodiversity assessment and to develop an ESIA for its 100MW Kon Plong Wind Power Project, situated within Kon Plong District, Kon Tum Province, Vietnam. ESC supported as well in developing the biodiversity preparation and assessment report as the basis of the ESIA.

Our Approach

ESC has helped to achieve the scope of work for this project which involved the following:

  • developed baseline study on biodiversity for a wind power project that includes reviewing the results of the first season birds and bats survey;
  • conducted potential habitat assessment (i.e., desktop and document review, aerial photograph level mapping) to define broader habitat types anticipated to occur across and adjoining the site. These data were utilized to define the methodology for the terrestrial fauna and flora baseline surveys. Potential species within the project area were described by providing an initial baseline for potential habitat assessment or the biodiversity assessment;
  • provided the biodiversity assessment of the surveyed flora/ fauna; and
  • established an initial Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) as the basis of a further/ more comprehensive conservation plan.

Outcome

ESC has provided a biodiversity baseline for the ESIA so that it can be developed thoroughly by considering the existing biodiversity condition in the area. The BMP will also set a basis to the Client in their impact monitoring schedule and to their mitigation plan.
