A renowned life sciences research company commissioned ESC in 2020 to develop a Digital Legal Register System and provide a legal register updating service suitable for its Singapore operations.
About the Project
Before engaging ESC, the client maintained and updated its own Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) legal records manually through an Excel file. Due to limited human resources, the client had difficulty keeping the legal register up to date from their Belgian headquarters. They also struggled to monitor legal register updates on a regular basis and whether its Singapore operations were compliant. The company aimed to ease regulatory compliance at its Singapore locations by transitioning to a digital legal register platform.
Our Approach
ESC first conducted a preliminary assessment to evaluate and present all the relevant legislation for the client’s legal register. This helped them deal with the complexities of the laws and standards that were in place at the time. The EHS laws and regulations were then compiled into an Excel database, which allowed the client to easily identify the articles and clauses it needed to comply with for its Singapore operations.
During the initial assessment, the client consulted on their specific needs and preferences for the format of the legal register system. Based on these discussions, ESC created the Regulatory Watch digital application, which enabled the client to access all legal registers from a single platform, view all applicable laws and regulations, and respond to legislative changes.
To date, ESC’s EHS Consultants continue to update the legal register on a quarterly basis.
Outcome
Using our deep local knowledge and legal expertise, ESC helped the client understand new regulatory frameworks and comply with applicable rules and regulations for its Singapore operations. The client now saves a huge amount of time by not having to update and maintain its legal registers manually.
Furthermore, because the platform lists all the parts of the legal code relevant to the company’s operations, it now has instant access to all the important legal information it needs to understand exactly what actions it should take to remain compliant.
Lastly, knowing that it will be notified of any legal changes gives the client peace of mind that it will always be up to date with its regulatory compliance.
