About the Project
ESC was engaged by ConocoPhillips Sarawak Limited (COP MY) to conduct a high-level assessment of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) related policies in Malaysia, review COP Global’s GHG policies and initiatives, and determine COP MY scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 emission-based in accordance with the GHG Protocol.
Our Approach
ESC started by gathering and summarizing information related to GHG policies ratified by Malaysia and relevant to the oil and gas sector, as well as any GHG policies and initiatives established by COP Global.
ESC also looked into any relevant GHG reduction initiatives and offset opportunities that are commonly implemented within the oil and gas sector in Malaysia. We also conducted a benchmark analysis of the sustainability achievement and progress of COP MY’s competitors within the oil and gas sector in Malaysia. The information gathered at this stage will be the basis for assessing COP MY’s current standing in addressing its GHG emissions.
In the final step, ESC developed a high-level carbon reduction strategy. The strategy outlines the onsite reduction measures (flare reduction measures, incorporation of renewable energy, etc.) and initiatives (sustainable reporting, aligning goals with UNSDGs, etc.) that could be implemented by COP MY as it progresses towards a more sustainable operation.
Outcome
ESC benchmarked the client’s current sustainability standing with the local GHG policies, GOP Global policies and its close competitors. ESC developed a high-level carbon reduction strategy that outlines the potential GHG reduction measures and initiatives.
Through the project, ESC’s sustainability experts have managed to assist the client in understanding its current sustainability progress and achievement. This will enable the client to identify the areas that can be improved as it progresses to a more sustainable operation.
