Iskandar, Malaysia: The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), the federal statutory body who spearheads and coordinates climate efforts within the Iskandar Malaysia region, recently awarded ESC (in collaboration with 27Advisory Group) as lead sustainability consultant for its state initiative Low Carbon Society Blueprint for Iskandar Malaysia 2030 – Climate Action Plan. This partnership will support IRDA in formulating a climate action plan and roadmap covering both climate mitigation and adaptation.

In 2012, Iskandar Malaysia unveiled a Low Carbon Society Blueprint, which aims to reduce emissions by 58% by 2025. The comprehensive Blueprint contains 281 programs spanning the topics of green economy, green community, and green environment, and is supplemented by Low Carbon Society Action Plans tailored to each of the region’s five local governments.

With this blueprint, IRDA hopes to ensure that it meets the global community demands for concrete action in protecting and sustaining the environment as well as increasing awareness among the State government, regional authorities, industries, businesses, and the community at large.

As the leading environment, safety, and sustainability consultant, ESC will work with multiple government stakeholderto develop the Climate Action Plan (CAP) which includes establishing various baseline development scenariosassessment and gap analysis study, greenhouse gas modelling, as well as climate risk vulnerability assessment.

Announcing the new partnership, ESC Group Director Andrew Young said, “We are excited to be part of this effort to create a resilient environment that will boost economic growth and improve the quality of life in Iskandar. We expect that the research we do will contribute to the delivery of this green agenda towards a low carbon future and address the vulnerabilities from climate change impact”.

ESC believes that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility for attaining a low carbon society. We work with companies who need to integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) into their strategy to develop a resilient business that can thrive in the new reality and contribute to making the world a more sustainable and better place for everyone.
