About the Project
The client is the largest producer of aluminum extrusion products in Malaysia with an extrusion capacity of 40,000 MT per annum.
The company commissioned ESC to perform a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards to identify the potential environmental impact of their aluminum products. Additionally, ESC supported the elaboration and verification of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to provide transparent and comparable information about their products.
Our Approach
ESC conducted the LCA study and examined the manufacturing processes that have the greatest environmental impact and in indicating the options for improvement in order to maximise the positive effects and reduce the negative effects on the environment to a minimum.
ESC developed the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) partnership with an external reviewer which consists of studies of full inventory analysis, potential environmental impacts (includes a component of biodiversity).
Outcome
ESC was able to provide a cost-effective purpose fit solution for the client. Through LCA and EPD, the client was able to compare the impacts of different materials and products and selected the most sustainable option. Additionally, it benefits the client to communicate the environmental performance of their product and demonstrate its legal and regulatory compliance.
